Our Story

About The Founder

Gaye Lalich, CDP

A native New Yorker, Gaye began her career on 7th Avenue, representing designers and placing collections in high-end boutiques and department stores nationwide. After moving to Los Angeles to raise her family, she continued using her natural gift for connecting with people by training sales teams and building trusted client relationships.

Gaye’s life took a heartfelt turn when her mother was diagnosed with dementia, leading her to become her primary caregiver for 12 years. That deeply personal experience inspired her transition into home health, where she helped families find compassionate caregivers and meaningful support during challenging times.

Recognizing the growing need for compassionate companionship and end-of-life support, Gaye founded Connected Through Caring, a company dedicated to providing personalized companion visits, emotional support, and end-of-life doula services for seniors and their families. Her mission is to bring comfort, connection, dignity, and peace of mind to those navigating aging, illness, and life’s final transitions.

Gaye volunteers in hospice care and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), a certified End-of-Life Doula (EOLD), and a member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA).

What happens during a companion visit?

Companion visits offer seniors meaningful connection beyond their immediate circle. Even when family members are nearby and deeply involved, having a dedicated companion introduces a new face, fresh conversation, and a different kind of engagement that can enrich daily life.

Each visit is shaped by what feels most meaningful and enjoyable for the individual. Time together may include warm conversation, sharing favorite memories, word games or memory exercises, or simply sitting together in quiet companionship.

Our companion visits are designed to meet real needs, starting with one-hour visits that can be extended as needed, with no pressure to commit to hourly or weekly minimums.

Visits can be held in the client’s home, at a senior living community or chosen location as well as virtually. We strive to make it as easy, stress free and as comfortable as possible.

What’s the difference between companion visits and caregiving?

Companion visits are about connection, conversation, and meaningful engagement. Our visits bring friendship, mental stimulation, and emotional support, moments that brighten the day and make your loved one feel truly seen and valued.

Caregiving, by contrast, focuses on hands-on help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, medications, or mobility.

While caregivers take care of practical needs, our companion visits are about sharing time, stories, and activities that spark joy, conversation, and connection, helping your loved one feel engaged, supported, and genuinely cared for.

What does an End-of-Life Doula do?

An End-of-Life Doula provides non-medical, compassionate support to individuals and families before, during, and after the end-of-life journey. This can begin even before a diagnosis, by helping people explore their values, wishes, and plans for the future so their voice is known and honored.

As needs evolve, a doula offers emotional support, companionship, and guidance, working alongside hospice and care teams to create comfort, facilitate meaningful conversations, and support both the individual and their loved ones.

They may also assist with legacy projects, vigil planning, and, after a passing, offer gentle bereavement support. The goal is to bring dignity, clarity, and connection to every stage of the journey.

Who are our services tailored for?

Our services are designed for seniors and the family members or friends who help guide their care decisions. We support seniors living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or mild cognitive decline through personalized, one-on-one interactions that honor each person’s pace, preferences, and individuality.

What areas in Southern California do you serve?

Currently, Connected Through Caring provides companion visits in West Los Angeles, South Bay, and San Fernando Valley.
